One of the fastest growing economies in the world.

Nairobi is the Capital city of Kenya and has a population of 4,397,000 people, with about 1,150,000 being young people between the ages of 20-30. Nairobi gets its name from the Maasai phrase meaning “the Place of cool waters,” but it is now commonly known as the “Green City Under the sun”, with a national park at the heart of the city. However, beyond its great climate and nature, it boasts of being one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with skyscrapers regularly popping up on the skyline and a bust of entrepreneurship taking place especially in the tech space. Dubbed “Africa’s Silicon Savannah”, it has the largest mobile penetration in the continent of Africa and has a slew of international headquarters of various organizations, and companies and growing retail space. Education and investment have continued to assist with the rise of the middle class.

However, despite this increased economic growth, the generated wealth still fails to trickle down to a majority of the population, who still live below the poverty line; and there is also a high rate of unemployment, especially among the youth. And this is amidst the backdrop of a city where over 75% of the population claim to be Christians. One cannot help but wonder what the impact on the city would be if these young Christians could be helped to understand their work and faith need to be integrated. At this critical time of economic growth in Nairobi’s history, now is the time to equip young professionals to bring the Gospel Witness to their workplace, and lay the foundation of the theology of work as these young leaders look to impact their city, country, and continent with the Gospel.
